Careers - Celebration Event - Speaker presenting on stage

With the support of over 100 guests paying tribute to our students, alumni, volunteers and employers, the Career Development Centre hosted another successful celebration event at Fyvie Hall on 9th June. The event was beautifully introduced by the Director of Student Affairs, David Shacklady and addressed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Rikki Morgan-Tamosunas. Stephen Cole supported the evening by presenting speakers from the CDC Mentoring Scheme, Associates in School Scheme, Westminster Enterprise Challenge and Charity of the Year. All four speakers shared their challenging and eventful journey with us, creating an inspirational atmosphere.

The evening then went on to award students and employers from a number of schemes such as: The National Mentoring Consortium, The CDC Mentoring scheme, University Associates in Schools, The Talent Bank award, Microsoft Office Specialist award, MAD, WBS Placement Student of the year.

NHS received the large organisation award having worked in partnership with the University for over 8 years. “The NHS has been very supportive of the employability programmes run by Westminster Business School.” Many of the students that have had a placement within the NHS have returned back to work for the NHS in graduate positions. Hodge Jones & Allen LLP was awarded as the small/ medium sized enterprise and was recognised for its supportive employability initiatives. “They also provide a facilitation of skills sessions on networking, and their unrivalled support of our annual legal careers networking event which they attend every year without fail.”  Charity of the year was awarded to Resources for Autism, received by JudiYah Yisreal-Daniels who “offers quality support to our students throughout a number of campuses”. Last but not least Paddington Academy was awarded as the School of the year and received by Laura Snow. “Laura continues to support our scheme even after the TDA funding to schools was withdrawn”.

To end this magnificent event, photos and videos of participants’ hard work throughout the year were presented. Certificates were then available for collecting followed by networking and refreshments.

Sandra Hutchinson from HMRC confirmed the event was efficacious and stated: “I thoroughly enjoyed the celebration evening.  It was well organised, engaging and the speakers were very inspirational.”
