On 30 October, the University of Westminster held its annual Property and Construction Networking careers Fair at the Marylebone campus, proving a great success. The event hosted over 30 organisations and 100 delegates who were there to meet with both undergraduates and postgraduates interested in a career in property and construction and offer advice whilst promoting their internships, placements and graduate schemes.
The event provided students with an opportunity to meet and network with potential employers and organisations such as CABE (Chartered Association of Building Engineers), Capita, Carillion Plc, Cushman & Wakefield LLP, Deloitte, EC Harris, Gerald Eve LLP, GVA, Hays, Kier, Knight Frank LLP, Laing O’Rourke, Mace, RICS, Savills (UK) Limited, Transport for London and Turner & Townsend. The networking opportunity provided students with advice on how to develop their future career aspirations.
The evening commenced with three short industry presentations starting firstly with Nathan Jarman, Associate Director for Turner and Townsend who spoke about consultancy skills in the construction industry, followed by two talks from Westminster property alumni; Joyce Ncube, Graduate Surveyor at Capita and Alisa Weber, Graduate Surveyor at JLL. Both gave students an insight into their recruitment experience and provided invaluable hints and tips about commercial awareness and preparation for graduate recruitment.
Presentations were well received and students spent the evening networking and speaking with representatives, gaining advice and tips and information on recruitment and application processes Architecture and Built Environment students were provided with information on how to find graduate jobs and work experience. The event encouraged students to apply to organisations within the Built Environment. Feedback from employers on the evening was extremely positive and employers commented on how professional and smartly dressed all students were.
