Do the Math is a documentary produced by which tells the story of the grassroots movements trying to change the tragic outcomes of climate change and their adversaries in the fossil fuel industry. Using simple maths, this film reveals the hard facts about climate change.

Bill McKibbon, a founder of, states that, “we can emit 565 more gigatons of carbon dioxide and stay below 2°C of warming — anything more than that risks catastrophe for life on earth. The only problem? Burning the fossil fuel that corporations now have in their reserves would result in emitting 2,795 gigatons of carbon dioxide – five times the safe amount.”

The screening is being organised in partnership with Michaela O’Brien, Senior lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, who will host discussions after the screening.

Do the Math is being shown as part of University of Westminster’s Green Week 2014. You can catch the film at 4.30pm Marylebone Campus, Room M210
