Did you know that less than 50% of the UK batteries are recycled?

Recycling batteries is really important to address environmental issues. Batteries are made from chemicals, including lead, cadmium, zinc, lithium and mercury and other resources that if you put  into a rubbish bin will be taken to landfill sites and the resources lost.

The Sustainability Team is happy to introduce more battery collection points  where you can take your old batteries for recycling.

Large bins are now placed at these 5 locations:

115 New Cavendish Street, London W1W 6UW

(Communal entrance area)

Harrow Campus

Watford Road Northwick Park Middlesex HA1 3TP

(Communal entrance area of Forum)

Marylebone Campus

35 Marylebone Road London NW1 5LS

(Communal entrance area)

309 Regent Street London W1B 2HW

(Communal entrance area)

101 New Cavendish Street, London, W1W 6XH

(2nd floor break out area)

When nearly full please call Andrew Sherwood ext. 66337 or Vince Gwiazda ext. 65111.

We also have smaller bins at the following locations:

A Block Harrow reception

• 1st Floor 101 NCS

• Little Titchfield Street

• Wells Street

• The Estates and Facilities Team at 101 Cavendish House

Remember, anything that would be classed as a domestic portable battery can go in the containers, NOT automotive or industrial! That basically means anything that you would buy for home use: Household batteries, Mobile phones, laptops, hearing aids, power tools, watches & clocks, power tools can be recycled.

After depositing the batteries into one of our Battery Cans they are sent to one of two sites in Belgium where the company REVATECH S.A. recycles them. Revatech as a company recovers and disposes around 155,000 tonnes of dangerous and non-dangerous industrial waste annually, by mechanical, biological and physico-chemical processes.

Each battery placed in any of the collection points can be recovered and used to make new batteries or something else.

Recycling batteries is your chance to contribute towards a more sustainable environment- tackling contamination and noxious emissions to air!
