COSMIC (Children of St Mary’s Intensive Care), is a charity that supports the children’s intensive care unit at St Mary’s Hospital in London by helping patients and their families, and enabling the dedicated team to treat hundreds of critically ill children each year.

To support these children and families during the hardest of times, COSMIC help by purchasing vital equipment, providing parent accommodation, supporting training for medical professionals, and funding internationally significant research into life-threatening childhood diseases.

The charity is ofayre1rganising the Marylebone Fayre need volunteers to help them and take shifts helping to man the COSMIC Information stall at the Marylebone High Street Fayre on the 18th June 2017, as well as hand-collecting donations with collection buckets, and handing out COSMIC balloons to event-goers.

The Marylebone Fayre volunteering slots are 2-3 hours, and are placed around the event area – there’s a fun fair, sports section, food and drink stalls, a festival area with live bands and a beer garden, balloon points where passers-by can have a charity branded balloon in exchange for a donation and a petting zoo as well as our COSMIC charity information stand along the high street. We will need at least 2 people at each spot throughout the day to collect donations and also answer any questions the public might have about the charity.fayre2

The funds raised from this year’s Fayre will be going towards our ‘Home from Home Appeal’, which aims to raise £600k to build 1st class accommodation for parents and family members of critically ill children being treated on our Children’s Intensive Care Unit. We currently put families up in local hotels and B&B’s, however it’s not ideal to have these families often living for weeks and often months alongside happy holiday-makers and tourists with no kitchen to cook healthy meals or access to laundry facilities. The new accommodation will have 12 en-suite bedrooms with a kitchen/diner and two family lounges, a play area for siblings, laundry room and a space for counselling and difficult conversations with our specialist Family Liaison Team.

Last year the Fayre raised over £20,000 for the Unit and was a day enjoyed by all. All volunteers will receive a charity t-shirt to wear and will be able to receive a complimentary drink from the festival bar.

If you are interested in taking part in the event, please email or call 02033126175 to speak to a member of the team. The slot allocations run from 9:00am-8:00pm – we will generally need more volunteers in the afternoon/evening as that is when the Fayre is the busiest.
