While the sun is still shining in September there’s no better time to dust off your old bike and cycle into uni – so start the year off right and get on your bike. It’s a much nicer way to get around than standing with your face in someone’s armpit underground, plus it’s a great way to fit some exercise into your routine while reducing your carbon footprint.

We love cycling, so to encourage our staff and students to choose a better commute, we’ve got a number of facilities and programmes in place to facilitate cyclists.

Watch this space for details of free bike maintenance checks and other events to make cycling easy. See below for the facilities available on campus:

Harrow Campus: As well as bike racks dotted around the campus, we have a secure bike shed outside the Forum building and showers you can use in the gym. Get in touch with the Sustainability Team for the code to the secure shed.

Marylebone Campus: Enter the building through the loading bay to access a secure bike storage shed that you can tap into with your staff card (just check with reception in the main building that you have the necessary permission). Once inside you can follow the corridor to find locker rooms and showers. Contact the Sustainability Team if you would like a locker.

New Cavendish Street Campus: Staff and students can lock their bikes in the carpark under 115 New Cavendish Street. You can access this by ringing the doorbell by the shutter on the side of the building on Hanson St and holding your ID card up to the camera for security to see. Once you’re down there you’ll find bike racks, showers and changing rooms. There are also upright lockers for storing bikes and half-size lockers for fold-up bikes or towels and shower gel. Contact the Sustainability Team if you would like a locker.

Regent Street: Unfortunately due to the nature of the building we don’t currently have any cycle storage, but the gym has showers available, and the secure storage at New Cavendish Street is only a short walk away.

If you intend to use the facilities, please note the following:

1.Bike storage and lockers are not for long-term  storage. The spaces will be reviewed annually and any bikes or items found to have been abandoned will be removed.

2.The shed is for storage of bikes only. Items other than bikes being stored in the shed will be removed.

3.The shed is used at owner’s risk. The university does not accept responsibility for lost or stolen belongings.

Please contact the Sustainability Team for locker access or more information: sustainability@westminster.ac.uk
