Last Friday the annual garden party took place at Chiswick Sports Ground with a range of sports and activities for staff who attended. There was a strong emphasis on sustainability and health & wellbeing throughout the day! The Sustainability Team were asking staff to prioritise 5 of the 17  Sustainable Development Goals for the Univeristy to focus on. Juice, a new health and wellbeing platform, was also launched on the day!

Honey Tasting Test

We were buzzing to test everyone’s taste buds with our honey taste test. We collected a jar of home grown honey from our  Chiswick Bee Hive and brought a cheaper jar of honey from the shops to see if the local honey could be identified.

Our bees weren’t let down as 80% of our tasters were able to pick the correct jar. Jar ‘B’ of course.

The sustainability team was also handing out seed bombs, filled with wild flower seeds, to those who participated. These wild flower seeds are great pollinators and will attract bees when they are planted.

Meat Free Lunch

Aramark served a delicious vegetarian lunch to everyone who attended including a range of colourful salads:

New potato and horseradish salad

Lebanese chickpea and spinach salad

Sun dried tomato pesto and rocket salad

Greek superfood salad

Summer panzanella salad

Broccoli and almond fattoush salad

As well as a selection of artisan (including gluten free) breads

On Your Bike

A group of 8 cyclists cycled to the event from New Cavendish Street. They we rewarded for their efforts with a free bike check up from Dr. Bike!

Well done to those who completed the 7 mile trip! If you’d like to get involved with university cycling activities then sign up to the cycling newsletter here.
