We work very closely with the Sustainability Team with the shared aim of ensuring that as a catering operator we are constantly working towards making our business practices as sustainable and environmentally conscious as possible.
This is a never ending task and we are always looking at new ways to reduce our footprint. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve how we do things. If you’d like to discuss ideas, ask questions or make suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!

Quite often it will be little changes to the way we do things that have a big impact. Like encouraging reusable bottles by providing free drinking water in our outlets or using compostable cups in our coffee shops. These are small steps, but considering how many students and staff come through our doors each day, they add up to make a significant difference.
Free drinking water is available at every outlet. Just ask staff to fill your bottle up or check out our water fountain map to find the nearest water fountain (coming soon).
If you bring your own cup to the cafe you’ll get a 20p discount off your hot drink!
Last year over 125,500 hot drinks were sold at Marylebone Campus alone! If everyone brought a re-usable cup for their hot drink we could prevent 42 tonnes of waste and (with the 20p discount for using a re-usable cup) a £25,000 saving would’ve been made!
BYOB (bring your own bottle) and fill it up with Oranka Juice! No single use plastic bottle needed for your lunchtime drink.
And if you buy a University of Westminster Waster Bottle you get your first filling for free!
You can ask staff about the cafes for the flavour of the week.
If you buy four vegetarian mains at any of the University of Westminster refectories you’ll get your fifth one Free by collecting stamps each time you buy one. This means you could be eating a free lunch every single week. You can pick a card up at any of the refectories, just ask at the till.

If you get a take away coffee cups then help us recycle it by giving it back to cafe staff.
They’ll add it to our food waste bins in the kitchen! It’ll then be recycled with the rest of our food waste.
Instead of getting your meal in a take away container and using single use cutlery ask for a plate and use the metal cutlery available.
This will help us reduce the amount of waste produced on site and reduce our carbon footprint.
If you’re organizing an event with catering at the university you can help reduce our carbon footprint by requesting vegetarian options for your guests and asking for all water to come in glass bottles.

Too Good To Go helps businesses reduce their food waste by selling leftover items for a discounted rate through the app at the end of the day.
They also have magic bags which are bags of goodies that you won’t know exactly what you’re getting until you pick it up. Exciting stuff… Take a look at their video.
We have also achieved various accreditation’s over the past year as testament to the hard work we’ve been doing in this area. These include the Soil Association’s Green Kitchen Award, Good Egg Award and Food for Life Bronze Standard, as well as Marine Stewardship Council Certification.
