Board of Media is a 10 minute documentary pilot and not-for-profit campaign, created by CMP 3rd years Emma Shoesmith, Alexandra Dack, Connor Hawkins and Jed Welland. Their aim is raising awareness and opening a debate surrounding inequality in action sports advertising, film, photography, prize money and job roles.

We challenge representation, gender equality, everyday sexism, with champion athletes, company owners, and academics, defining the problem and finding a solution. It is important that the documentary pilot remains void of any corporate action sport sponsorship in order for our interviewees to have true autonomy. The action sport’s industry takes its model from mainstream culture; we investigate the individuals that are changing the game with DIY initiatives, not for profit organizations and education in media literacy. Culminating in an onscreen confrontation in order to pitch a documentary series to a major sports broadcaster.

Our utopia is to see more female action sports athletes in the Mainstream media. It is by coming together and having a great support network that we believe will give us the power to change perspectives.
