We developed a specially-designed mentoring scheme for students in social science fields including Politics, Sociology, and Criminology, to enhance their employability in an area in which they are studying. This programme is integrated into the curriculum, involving staff, students, communities, and employers; it provides a concrete platform to support students with their current education and employment.
This can help prepare prospective students before starting their degree as well as those in the UG and PG programmes. We also organise and deliver workshops involving students, local community leaders, and professional business organisations. This includes multiple roles for PG and UG students involving course delivery, and enabling us to provide mentors for prospective students before they begin their studies in the School/University. Although we already have students involved in the Applicant Day and Open Day programmes, this scheme will formalise the role of students throughout the academic year, and help us build a community involving various stakeholders.
