Professor Priya Sasidharan  | Faculty team

Priya

As an enthusiastic professional with a strong background in Architectural Design, Planning, Urban Design & Renewal spanning 15 years of experience in consultancy and academics the innate conviction has been the pursuit of excellence.

I have been passionately involved in teaching urban design, retrofitting, planning strategies and traditional practices both at graduate and postgraduate level. Mentoring architectural and urban design thesis works, structuring curriculum for Architectural courses, advanced studies, examiner at graduate level studios at various South Indian Universities and a consultant for large scale master planning/urban design projects has pruned my professional career on a holistic approach.

Being a recipient of the best thesis award at post graduate level in planning and a university rank holder at graduate and advanced academics in Architecture, my avid interest at research found me pursuing doctoral programme on urban identity and public realm studies at CEPT University. I have been an active member of the urban renewal project of UNDP-MATURE, later selected by ISOCARP to work on Sustainable Energy and Spatial Planning Workshop, Douro UNESCO Region, Portugal, the nuances of contemporary urban best practices has become my forte. Having presented and published several papers on sustainability, vernacular practices, smart cities at National and International forums and being a recipient of the International fellowship – Young Planning Professional, ISOCARP- 2009 has given ample exposure at working across borders and cultures.

Further to having received a post graduate diploma on Green cities for Eco efficiency at Erasmus University, Netherlands through IHS Partial fellowship, pursuing domain expertise on urban design encompassing urban issues, place making, public realm and envisioning future cities the bridge between theory and design application has become the prime mover. Collaborating the Indian experience on the International podium as in paper publications/workshop for EUSS & ISOCARP, and delving into the ethnic Indian process of urbanism at academics has given me a comprehensive and holistic standing in the profession.
