University of Westminster Graphic Communication Design BA students participated in the D&AD Global Creative and Advertising Festival over the three days from 25-27 April and were offered opportunities by industry creatives.

The D&AD Festival is a huge and creative affair organised into distinct themes. This year the festival focused on big world issues, and shifts in technology.

Westminster students participated in workshops about Climate Change, Design and Sustainability, and Screen Printing. They heard from leading innovators and industry leading designers such as artist David Shrigley, Kickstarter founder Yancey Strickler and NOWNESS Creative Director Anna Higgs about creating new ideas, and transforming the design sector.

Senior Lecturer Hena Ali said: “D&AD provided the students an immersive experience to understand the challenges faced in the current global scenario. They were inspired, motivated and excited to see what a strong position design especially Graphic Communication Design occupies in this scenario to contribute positively towards sustainability and change.

“Getting a chance to listen to industry creatives and engage in the question answer sessions not only allowed our students to think about how they can position their own professional practice in future but it also introduced industry creatives to the BA Graphic Communication Design course at the University of Westminster.

“Impressed by the students’ engagement with different interactive activities, students individually and as a course were offered opportunities to engage further with industry creatives by participating and inviting them over to our institutions for collaboration.”
