CREAM SCREENS masterclasses with Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Chantal Akerman
The Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM), University of Westminster, is delighted to announce the launch of the CREAM SCREENS series this October with masterclasses by internationally acclaimed filmmakers and artists Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Chantal Akerman.
Ahead of the UK premiere of his film, Cemetery of Splendour (2015), Apichatpong Weerasethakul will be giving a special masterclass at Regent Street Cinema. The artist will talk about the distinctive alchemy of his practice, which fuses light with shadow and transmits personal memory into collective history. Embracing multiple contexts of artistic practice, Weerasethakul will present his video installation Fireworks (Archives) , a hallucinatory memory machine shot in a temple in the northeast of Thailand where he grew up. The artist will talk about his recent foray into creating performance, as well as his subtle, passionate engagement with the past lives and times of Thailand’s northeastern region. He will be in conversation with May Adadol Ingawanij, film theorist and curator at CREAM.
