UCU at University of Westminster is organized into four campus branches (Cavendish, Harrow, Marylebone and Regent) and a central Co-ordinating Committee (CoCom).
Scroll down for a list of all the posts and postholders in Westminster UCU. All these postholders are members of the Coordinating Committee (CoCom). These include branch chairs, secretaries, treasurers and membership officers; the CoCom chair, secretary and treasurer; departmental representatives; a campaigns officer; communications officers; a membership officer; the UCU Westminster negotiators; a delegate to the region; and health and safety representatives.
How decisions are made in Westminster UCU
UCU members discuss current issues and make policy recommendations at campus branch meetings. Branch chairs and secretaries take these recommendations to CoCom (which meets at least once a month, sometimes more often ), where decisions are taken.
Decisions to open and close disputes taken by the Coordinating Committee must be ratified by branches.
CoCom works closely with the national UCU office (through the UCU Higher Education regional officer for North East London; currently Barry Jones). Some decisions can only be made by a ballot of the membership, including taking industrial action.
All members of the UCU@Westminster Coordinating Committee are allocated hours for their work (‘facilities time’), according to a formula agreed with the university management.
At present (May 2012), however, many CoCom members are working without allocated hours (and have been for some time), as Westminster UCU and the university management are unable to agree on how many Facilities Time hours overall should be allocated to Westminster UCU.
