Last year 6 classrooms across Regent Street and Little Titchfield street were given a make over that made them very different to a standard classroom in terms of both the furniture, AV and IT and basics such as lighting and carpeting.
The furniture in them is generally easier to move, allowing for multiple layouts to be configured quickly during a teaching session. The AV and IT is generally simpler, with lighter, smaller lecterns which can be moved and multiple display screens on the walls.
A further project with a budget in excess of £1M has just started and will lead to a number of rooms being similarly altered in each major university building. There is no fixed look or feel for these rooms – it is being left up to each faculty to decide the type and balance of both furniture and AV/IT across the rooms.
The net result will be a growth in the capability of all Faculty sites to support more flexible delivery approaches during single timetabled session within classrooms.
