More than ever, they will value the support and insight that your years of experience in industry can provide them.<\/p>\n<p>Through our Career Mentoring Scheme, you can help a student or recent graduate understand the options available to them after they\u00a0graduate and\u00a0assist them in navigating the job\u00a0market while it is at its most competitive.<\/p>\n<p><b>What can you gain from\u00a0<\/b><b>becoming a mentor<\/b><b>?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mentoring can be\u00a0an\u00a0incredibly rewarding\u00a0learning experience for everyone involved. With your advice and\u00a0guidance,\u00a0you can see a student flourish and achieve their\u00a0ambitions or\u00a0begin their chosen career path.\u00a0Other benefits to mentoring include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhancing\u00a0your\u00a0mentoring,\u00a0listening and communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Reinforcing\u00a0your own knowledge and enthusiasm for your industry,\u00a0and\u00a0opening\u00a0your eyes to new innovations coming through<\/li>\n<li>Having\u00a0a\u00a0positive influence on the next generation and giving\u00a0back to the University of Westminster<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>How can you get involved?<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2021\/01\/2017_03_29_KR_Harrow_Library_print__99-4.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1571 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2021\/01\/2017_03_29_KR_Harrow_Library_print__99-200x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>We are always looking for new mentors who can\u00a0pass on their wisdom to\u00a0our students to give tailored advice\u00a0and\u00a0provide\u00a0them\u00a0with general guidance in setting realistic goals for their professional aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re looking for volunteers who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a passion to share their advice and experience<\/li>\n<li>Can spare <strong>at least\u00a0<\/strong><strong>three hours\u00a0between\u00a0April \u2013 July<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Have more than\u00a0three\u00a0years of experience in a graduate-level role, or have insight into recruitment and selection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We appreciate that our mentors are often very busy and so\u00a0we offer both long- and short-term mentoring options which are\u00a0flexible to fit in with\u00a0your\u00a0lifestyle:<\/p>\n<p><b>Career Mentoring Scheme (long-term mentoring)\u202f<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our award-winning\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.westminster.ac.uk\/become-a-mentor\">Career Mentoring Scheme<\/a>\u202fmatches participants for a\u00a0long-term\u00a0mentoring relationship and we offer two cycles\u00a0each year.\u00a0Applications for cycle 2 are now open and\u00a0<b>this cycle\u00a0<\/b><b>runs for a 12-week period between\u00a0<\/b><b>April \u2013 July<\/b>\u00a0(committing to a minimum of\u00a0three mentoring sessions).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Ask\u202fa\u202fMentor Service (short-term mentoring)<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As an alternative for those who are looking for short-term mentoring opportunities, the\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/ask-a-mentor\/\">Ask\u202fa\u202fMentor Service\u202f<\/a>offers you the chance to support our students through a one-off conversation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Training\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0offer exclusive training to our mentors,\u00a0which gives\u00a0them\u00a0an opportunity to improve\u00a0their\u00a0knowledge\u00a0in key areas and confidence with\u00a0mentoring\u00a0in 2021.\u00a0Our training covers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The best ways to support students and news graduates entering the working world during <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2021\/01\/2017_03_29_KR_Harrow_Library_print__36-4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1574 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2021\/01\/2017_03_29_KR_Harrow_Library_print__36-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>COVID-19<\/li>\n<li>How to use LinkedIn effectively\u00a0and\u00a0navigate\u00a0virtual networking<\/li>\n<li>How to work\u00a0effectively in a virtual\u00a0mentoring session\u00a0with\u00a0your mentee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How can you become a mentor?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0join our community of mentors, you will need to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/engage.westminster.ac.uk\/Form.aspx?id=587550\">apply though\u202fthis\u202fonline form\u202f<\/a><\/li>\n<li>attend a virtual mentor\u202ftraining session (if your application is successful)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We welcome applications from all professionals in the UK and overseas, as all mentoring sessions will take place virtually for the foreseeable future.\u00a0Applications\u202fare open all year round.
