{"id":2558,"date":"2024-10-16T13:05:31","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T12:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/?p=2558"},"modified":"2024-10-16T13:05:32","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T12:05:32","slug":"register-as-a-mentor-and-share-your-expertise-with-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/register-as-a-mentor-and-share-your-expertise-with-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Register as a mentor and share your expertise with students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Join our mentoring community now and support students with their careers through our upcoming one-to-one or group mentoring opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Future Ready Mentoring programmes at Westminster have continued to grow from strength to strength and we\u2019d love for you to be a part of our growing community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023\/24 alone, we created <strong>2,470<\/strong> mentoring relationships, with over <strong>4,700<\/strong> hours of mentoring taking place and <strong>700<\/strong> volunteer mentors actively participating across our programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are always looking for new mentors who can pass on their wisdom to our students to give tailored advice and provide them with insight into the industry. Here are some fantastic ways you can get involved now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Group Mentoring (in-person)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With <strong>1283 <\/strong>students benefitting last year, group mentoring is subject-specific and integrated into students\u2019 timetabled teaching, with mentoring sessions taking place <strong>in person<\/strong> and on-campus, in groups of <strong>5-8 students<\/strong>, over up to <strong>three sessions<\/strong> during the semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sessions are all tailored to supplement content that students cover as part of the module, with mentors facilitating discussions to provide practical insights into the working world. We are looking for mentors to support the following programme this semester:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Business Management and Marketing students on \u2018Leadership and Practice\u2019 modules.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Students explore core competencies required of leaders in contemporary society and reflect on the current challenges leaders face. Students connect learning to employability through an art-based project rooted in their business, management and marketing-related knowledge and skills.<\/li><li>Your support as a mentor will help guide them through assessing their strengths and weaknesses, overcoming challenges in their career planning, and developing confidence, resilience, and adaptability while learning how to lead with Diversity and Inclusivity.<\/li><li>This programme will take place at our Marylebone campus, and travel expenses will be covered for mentors based in and around London<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/engage.westminster.ac.uk\/Form.aspx?id=976124\"><strong>Find out more and register your support by 28 October.<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/10\/FRM-GM-Quote-Natasha-Mcallister.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"381\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/10\/FRM-GM-Quote-Natasha-Mcallister-1024x381.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/10\/FRM-GM-Quote-Natasha-Mcallister-1024x381.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/10\/FRM-GM-Quote-Natasha-Mcallister-300x112.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/10\/FRM-GM-Quote-Natasha-Mcallister-768x286.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/10\/FRM-GM-Quote-Natasha-Mcallister.jpg 1145w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Career Mentoring Programme (long-term mentoring)<\/strong><strong>\u202f<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our award-winning Career Mentoring Programme\u202fmatches participants for a&nbsp;long-term&nbsp;mentoring relationship, and we offer two cycles&nbsp;each year.&nbsp;Applications for Cycle 1 are still open, and&nbsp;<strong>this cycle&nbsp;runs for six months between&nbsp;November \u2013 April<\/strong>&nbsp;(committing to a minimum of&nbsp;five mentoring sessions).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are particularly in need of mentors in the following areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Computing and IT<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Health and Social Care<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Law and Legal Services<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Sciences and Research<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ask<\/strong><strong>\u202fa<\/strong><strong>\u202fMentor Service (short-term mentoring)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an alternative for those who are looking for short-term mentoring opportunities, the\u202fAsk\u202fa\u202fMentor Service\u202foffers you the chance to support our students through a one-off conversation at any point during the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What can you gain from becoming a mentor?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mentoring can be incredibly rewarding. With your advice and guidance, you can see a student flourish and achieve their ambitions or begin their chosen career path.
