{"id":1025,"date":"2021-11-29T13:55:05","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T13:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/?p=1025"},"modified":"2021-11-29T13:55:06","modified_gmt":"2021-11-29T13:55:06","slug":"register-your-interest-in-our-course-on-modifying-transport-behaviour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/register-your-interest-in-our-course-on-modifying-transport-behaviour\/","title":{"rendered":"Register your interest in our course on modifying transport behaviour"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Active Travel Academy is pleased to announce the second run of this module, beginning in the New Year.&nbsp; <em>Modifying transport behaviour &#8211; theory, practice and politics<\/em> is a timely contribution to our understanding of an essential transport subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that our current travel habits have very significant downsides in terms of road safety, greenhouse gas emissions, air quality etc.&nbsp; We also know that these habits have on the whole proved very difficult to change.&nbsp; But the pandemic has shown how adaptable people actually are.&nbsp; Meanwhile, practice is continuing to evolve: we are getting better at working out what does or does not have a positive impact, and why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This timely course will provide a thorough insight into the state of the art of modifying behaviour in transport, from well-established interventions (such as speed limits) to relatively new ones (such as subsidy of active travel). It will take participants through the theory and evidence supporting the use of behaviour-change interventions and equip them with the skills to assess interventions critically and to develop them methodically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cIt was brilliant and the way it was delivered for me (online) enabled me to fit it around my other commitments (professional and familial)\u201d (course participant, 2021).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cHad some great guest speakers in talking about projects they had worked on and how well they worked or didn\u2019t\u201d (course participant, 2021).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four of those who took the course in Spring 2021 have since taken up transport posts with an emphasis on behaviour change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Details:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Modifying transport behaviour<\/em> will run on-line on Wednesday evenings from 17:30 to 20:30 (UK time) for 12 sessions beginning 26<sup>th<\/sup> January 2022.&nbsp; The course will be led by Dr Tom Cohen with contributions from a wide range of expert guest speakers.&nbsp; The course includes two pieces of assessed coursework: a critical evaluation of a transport behaviour-change intervention; and the development of a new behaviour-change intervention from first principles, in response to a defined transport problem or opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course will be available to those interested in the topic <strong>as a stand-alone module<\/strong>, subject to satisfying basic entry requirements and availability.\u00a0 It is also part of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westminster.ac.uk\/transport-and-logistics-courses\/2022-23\/september\/full-time\/transport-planning-and-management-msc\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.westminster.ac.uk\/transport-and-logistics-courses\/2022-23\/september\/full-time\/transport-planning-and-management-msc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MSc in Transport Planning and Management<\/a><\/em> offered at the University of Westminster and students completing it successfully may use the credits towards a Postgraduate Certificate, a Postgraduate Diploma or a full MSc.\u00a0 The price is \u00a3850 (with alumni of the university enjoying a 15 per cent discount).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please register your interest in the course by writing to <a href=\"mailto:t.cohen@westminster.ac.uk\" data-type=\"mailto\" data-id=\"mailto:t.cohen@westminster.ac.uk\">Tom Cohen<\/a> so that we can contact you when it becomes possible to apply.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Active Travel Academy is pleased to announce the second run of this module, beginning in the New Year.&nbsp; Modifying transport behaviour &#8211; theory, practice and politics is a timely contribution to our understanding of an essential transport subject.
