Cargo bike deliveries also have the potential to provide quality employment, differentiated from the \u2018gig economy\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"589\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/11\/pin_birdsongcargobikes_0621_024-1-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"A group of people on cargo bikes on a quiet London street\n\n\" class=\"wp-image-1492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/11\/pin_birdsongcargobikes_0621_024-1-1024x589.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/11\/pin_birdsongcargobikes_0621_024-1-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/11\/pin_birdsongcargobikes_0621_024-1-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/11\/pin_birdsongcargobikes_0621_024-1-1536x884.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/11\/pin_birdsongcargobikes_0621_024-1-2048x1179.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Foto Credit : Glimpse and MPST<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, cargo bike riders can currently experience precarious work, and health and safety risks, and the workforce of cargo bike delivery companies lacks diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between March 2022 and September 2023 we have been working on a project aimed at developing an understanding of the various experiences of cargo bike delivery riders with a particular focus around employment and wellbeing, funded by Impact on Urban Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">The outcome of this work has been our first report <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/delivering-good-work-labour-employment-and-wellbeing-in-londons-cargo-bike-sector\/\">Delivering Good Work: Labour, employment and wellbeing in London\u2019s cargo bike sector<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also worked with riders, manager and other stakeholders in the sector to co-create a set of actions that cargo bike cargo bike logistics companies, government bodies, and other actors can take to ensure the sector continues to grow in a just and equitable way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">A summary of this second part of the work has been published on a follow up report titled <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2023\/09\/Delivering-good-work_A-stakeholders-perspective_V4-1.pdf\" data-type=\"post\">Delivering Good Work: A stakeholders\u2019 perspective<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also collaborated with the riders&#8217; union and other organisations in London to ensure that our findings were discussed with riders and managers, and delivered a series of advocacy sessions in London.
