{"id":546,"date":"2020-08-04T10:04:07","date_gmt":"2020-08-04T10:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/?p=546"},"modified":"2020-08-04T10:04:07","modified_gmt":"2020-08-04T10:04:07","slug":"postgrad-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/postgrad-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing the ATA&#8217;s new Postgraduate Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Guest post by Becki Cox, University of Glasgow<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Calling all active travel focused PGRs!<\/p>\n<p>We are excited to be launching a new Postgraduate Network within the Active Travel Academy, aimed primarily at postgraduate researchers (PGRs) with an interest in active travel. With active travel being such a hugely inter-disciplinary area, it\u2019s currently challenging to know who else is \u201cout there\u201d doing active travel research and to find ways to share insight. We are keen therefore to create a friendly space to connect, to encourage cross-pollination of ideas and insight, as well as to create meaningful links between early career academics and practitioner networks.<\/p>\n<p>The objectives of the network will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Engagement with the wider active travel research community \u2013 mutual learning<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Representation of PGR voices within active travel research<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Dissemination of PGR research in a user-friendly format for the wider community<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Access to training, both by sharing existing sources and organising new sources if applicable<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Mentoring from senior academics<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Creation of mutual links with practitioners<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>Peer learning and review \u2013 written work etc<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The network is open to all postgraduate and early career researchers with an interest in active travel, throughout the UK and internationally, be that from the perspective of public health, journalism, engineering, transport, urban design, architecture, planning, sociology, psychology or anything else\u2026 Active travel is exciting for many reasons, not least its inter-disciplinary nature!<\/p>\n<p>At this stage, we are just looking to gauge interest and start some initial conversations so there is plenty of room to get involved with shaping how the network develops.<\/p>\n<p>We will aim to meet together (virtually, initially) in September for a more formal launch event but look out in the meantime for more blog posts and podcasts appearing on the webpage.
