{"id":603,"date":"2020-11-17T10:27:06","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T10:27:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/?p=603"},"modified":"2020-11-17T10:27:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T10:27:06","slug":"modifying-transport-behaviour-new-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/ata\/modifying-transport-behaviour-new-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Modifying Transport Behaviour: new course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Active Travel Academy is pleased to announce a new evening course available on a stand-alone basis.\u00a0 <em>Modifying Transport Behaviour &#8211; theory, practice and politics<\/em> will be a timely contribution to our understanding of an essential transport subject.<\/p>\n<p>We know that our current travel habits have very significant downsides in terms of road safety, greenhouse gas emissions, air quality etc.\u00a0 We also know that these habits have on the whole proved very difficult to change.\u00a0 But the pandemic has shown how adaptable people actually are.\u00a0 Meanwhile, those engaged in influencing behaviour have been getting ever more sophisticated in their methods, though this sophistication is not yet tending to be seen in the transport sector.<\/p>\n<p>As the name of the course indicates, we\u2019ll look critically at the theory of behaviour and behaviour change and the evidence that supports it.\u00a0 We\u2019ll survey recent and current practice, seeking to identify the state of the art.\u00a0 And we\u2019ll cover the politics of modifying transport behaviour: who is trying to change whose behaviour with what justification, and what does that mean for the way it is done?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Details<\/strong>: <em>Modifying Transport Behaviour<\/em> will run on Wednesday evenings from 17:30 to 20:30 (UK time) for 12 sessions beginning 20<sup>th<\/sup> January 2021.
