\r\n \r\n 1. Am I allowed to use Generative AI for my university work?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Yes. You can use Generative AI to support your learning and, unless your assignment\r\n or module specifically prohibits it, to support aspects of assessed work. However,\r\n AI must not replace your own thinking or produce work that you submit as your own.\r\n Always check your assignment brief and any instructions from your tutor.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 2. What are acceptable ways to use AI in an assessed assignment?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Acceptable uses can include brainstorming, planning an outline, generating research\r\n keywords, summarising information, improving grammar and clarity, debugging code and\r\n providing creative inspiration. You must critically review and adapt AI-assisted\r\n material so that your work demonstrates your own understanding.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 3. What uses of AI could be considered academic misconduct?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Examples include using AI to write an essay, report or code for you when this is not\r\n explicitly permitted; asking AI to carry out your analysis or construct your arguments;\r\n submitting AI-generated material as your own; failing to declare AI use; or using AI\r\n during an assessment where it is prohibited.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 4. Do I need to declare that I have used AI?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Yes. If you use AI in assessed work, you must declare the tool you used and explain\r\n specifically how you used it. This applies even to relatively minor uses of AI.\r\n For further guidance, speak to your tutors and\/or read the\r\n \r\n University\u2019s Guidance to Students on the use of Generative AI\r\n <\/a>.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 5. Can I use AI to improve my writing, grammar or spelling?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Yes. AI writing assistants can be used to improve grammar, spelling and clarity.\r\n However, you remain responsible for the final work and should declare the use of\r\n the AI tool in assessed work.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 6. Can I use AI to help with research?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Yes. For example, you can use AI to generate search terms, suggest relevant sources\r\n or summarise articles. However, you must verify the accuracy and credibility of the\r\n information and sources, rather than relying on AI-generated references without verification.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 7. Can I use AI-generated images, designs, music or code in my assignments?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n This depends on your subject and the assignment. In some creative and technical\r\n disciplines, using Generative AI may be encouraged or even required. Where it is\r\n permitted, its use must be transparent and appropriately acknowledged, and you\r\n should follow the requirements in your module or assignment brief.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 8. Can I use AI translation tools for assessed work?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n Yes, but if you use a translation tool to produce assessed work, you must keep a\r\n copy of the original-language version and be able to provide it if requested.\r\n This allows staff to verify authorship where necessary.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 9. Can I use an AI assistant or AI browser to complete activities in Blackboard for me?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n No. You must not use an AI system, AI browser or other automated tool to access\r\n University platforms or complete learning activities, assessments, quizzes or\r\n submissions on your behalf. Your academic work and participation must involve\r\n your own direct engagement.\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/details>\r\n\r\n
\r\n \r\n 10. What should I remember when using AI for my studies?\r\n <\/summary>\r\n
\r\n AI can produce inaccurate information, reproduce cultural or social biases and create\r\n privacy risks. You should verify its outputs, think carefully about what information\r\n you share with AI tools, and avoid becoming over-reliant on them.
