Start by finding the University page (called a “School” in LinkedIn) for Westminster. From here you can find alumni who work in jobs, companies, and cities that interest you. The more connections you have, the more you will be able to see.

LinkedIn Learning

As a current University of Westminster student, you can get access to LinkedIn Learning for free! It’s a great resource of a huge range of courses from technical and IT-related skills, through to soft skills development, skills for the workplace and even leisure interests.

To access your account, find details here: https://www.westminster.ac.uk/current-students/studies/study-skills-and-training/digital-skills/linkedin-learning

Once registered, get an introduction to the resources via this short course https://www.linkedin.com/learning/gaining-skills-with-linkedin-learning-2019/gain-skills-with-linkedin-learning

Why not try out the Pathfinder to get some ideas of courses if you have a specific goal in mind:

LinkedIn Learning Pathfinder

You can also get inspiration from the LinkedIn Learning blog: LinkedIn Learning Blog: Where Professionals Go to Learn

Career Explorer

A lot of data is collected on LinkedIn, and it provides insights into skills and careers. The Career Explorer tool uses this data and provides analysis of these skills and job titles. You don’t need to get overwhelmed by the detail to find this useful – for example it could give you inspiration about the skills you might have gained from previous jobs.

Get help with your profile

If you want to improve your LinkedIn profile look out for workshops and events later this Semester (including a LinkedIn Q&A session on 25th January), or check out our resources on engage-employability.westminster.ac.uk

***

Many thanks to Tracey Wells, our Careers and Employability Service manager, for writing this blog.
