At the University of Westminster, we recognise that applying for a PhD can be a very mysterious process: from choosing a topic, a university, or a supervisor, to writing a PhD proposal, doing an interview, or embarking on independent research. It can be particularly daunting for those from backgrounds underrepresented in doctoral study who may be the first in their family to study at undergraduate level.<\/p>

This panel will pull the curtain away from applying for and doing a PhD. You will hear from our panel of current doctoral researchers about their experiences and, more importantly, have a chance to ask them questions.<\/p>

The panel is for all those thinking of doing a PhD \u2013 masters students at the University of Westminster, those elsewhere in the UK thinking of doctoral study, and those around the world considering a PhD in the UK.<\/p>

Simon Felix is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in neuroscience, psychology, and criminology. His PhD focuses on people transitioning away from crime (desistance), exploring how their sense of self and identity changes as they reintegrate with society. This work is a marriage of social psychology and criminology, bringing a psychosocial approach to the subject of self-change through desistance. Alongside his research, he is one of the PhD reps in psychology and helped to organise the School of Social Sciences PhD Conference three years in a row.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Megan Carnrite is a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) at the University of Westminster. Her art practice and research focus on cameraless analogue photography and its relationship to the body. In addition to making and exhibiting her artwork, Megan has contributed to exhibitions as a curator and researcher, and has worked as an educator both in higher education and museums. Before researching at CREAM, she received advanced degrees in art practice and art history.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sajida Hashemi is in the final year of her PhD program, specialising in Cancer Immunotherapy. Additionally, she serves as a lecturer at London Metropolitan University, where she teaches students degree students in Biomedical Sciences and Dietetics.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Keili Greene is a fourth year doctoral student in Nationalism and Cultural Studies at London Metropolitan University. Prior to starting her PhD, Keili completed her MSc in International Security and Global Governance at The University of London, Birkbeck and her BA(Hons) in International Relations at London Metropolitan University, with the advantage of completing a year of her studies at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Keili is an experienced researcher, with contributions to think tanks and NGOs in London, Denmark and Tel Aviv. Her area of special interest lies at the intersection of Israel-Palestine, nationalism, national identity construction and the arts and cultural sphere. The working title of her PhD research is ‘The Image of The Nation: Exploring the Connection Between the Symbolic Depiction of Land and the Construction of National Identity in Contemporary Art in Israel-Palestine’.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
