The Three Minute Thesis (3MT\u00ae) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia (threeminutethesis.uq.edu.au).<\/p>

The competition gives doctoral researchers a chance to communicate the importance of their research beyond their discipline and their peers \u2014 in three minutes, with no notes and with only one slide.<\/p>

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDina is a final year pathology route PhD student and master\u2019s degree holder in pharmacology from the School of Life Sciences at the University of Westminster. Her project tackles the contribution of a group of enzymes called Peptidylarginine deiminases (PADs) to acute brain injuries and neurodegenerative diseases. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tI am a visual artist whose work combines spoken word, live art, installation, still and moving image, sound and scent. My research project combines experimental creative practice, auto ethnography, artist interviews and critical analysis. It draws from my own life experiences as a lesbian woman and multidisciplinary performances, including soundscapes and still images. This practice-based research will develop the idea of a living archive through my own practice and work. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAyushi Chamoli is an engineer-turned-media professional studying how television news is consumed in India, focusing on the audience\u2019s level of media literacy. Her work explores whether viewers critically engage with news content and how this shapes public understanding. Initially aspiring to be a broadcast journalist, she was struck by how passively news is often consumed \u2014 an insight that inspired her research. She now advocates for media literacy at all levels. Beyond her work, Ayushi enjoys yoga, dance, classical music \u2014 especially Beethoven and Mozart \u2014 and has a deep love for comedy.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMargaret Go is a doctoral researcher in Politics whose work explores the evolving discourses surrounding China\u2019s rise and their influence on U.S. foreign policy strategies of containment and engagement from 1949 to 2023. She argues that these narratives are rooted in colonial legacies, American exceptionalism, and Orientalism. Critiquing the binary of China as either a threat or peaceful actor, she reveals both as racialised constructions reinforcing American hegemony. Using a postcolonial lens, she examines how oppositions like West\/non-West and Global North\/Global South justify neocolonial practices. Her doctoral research examines the portrayal of female characters in animation, focusing on how the Spacetoon satellite channel has influenced gender role perceptions in the Arab world. With a multidisciplinary background in media, communication, and visual arts, Mariam combines academic inquiry with artistic practice, bringing creative depth to her research. She is passionate about gender studies and the cultural impact of animation, and advocates for inclusive storytelling. Her research mission is to outsmart faulty heartbeats by targeting the Kv1.5 ion channel for the treatment in Cardiovascular Diseases. When not in the lab decoding cardiac chaos, you’ll find her baking show-stopping cakes for her small business or blowing her nephew’s mind with science experiments involving slime and soda bottles. A self-proclaimed labfluencer, she brings test tubes to Instagram, turning complex science into scroll-worthy content. Professor Dame Judith Petts retired in September 2024 as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Plymouth, a post she held for almost 9 years. In a 45-year career in higher education, senior roles included as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer at both Birmingham and Southampton Universities.<\/p>

She is a member of the Board of the Marine Management Organisation, a Trustee of the Marine Biological Association and chairs the Energy Programme Board for the Great South-West Pan Regional Partnership. Previous external appointments include as a member of the Council of BBSRC (2014-18) and NERC (2000-6); the Science Advisory Council of Defra (2011-16), and the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (2006-11). She was a Director of the Heart of the South-West Local Economic Partnership (2016-24) and chaired the Universities UK Climate Action Steering Group.<\/p>

She was appointed CBE in 2012, for services to Scientific Research, and Dame Commander in the King\u2019s Birthday Honours 2024, for services to Higher Education and Sustainability.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Margherita Sprio is Reader in Film and Visual Culture, School of Arts, and is Director of the Graduate School at the University of Westminster. She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths (University of London) and The Slade School of Art (University College London) and then worked for a time showing her work internationally before completing her PhD at Goldsmiths.<\/p>

Margherita moved from making photographic and film works to writing and teaching about film and visual culture. She joined the University of Westminster in 2011 and has previously taught at a number of institutions in the UK including Birkbeck College, Goldsmiths, Middlesex University, Central St Martins and University of Essex.<\/p>

She is also the author of Migrant Memories: Cultural History, Cinema and the Italian Post-War Diaspora in Britain (Peter Lang, 2013) and is currently working on her forthcoming book, Women in the Frame: Feminist Intimacies on the British Screen (Bloomsbury Academic).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Debra Kelly is Professor Emerita in Modern Languages, School of Humanities, University of Westminster and a researcher in the HOMELandS (Hub on Migration, Exile, Languages and Space) research group. She is also Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Language Acts and Worldmaking, Global Cultures Institute, King\u2019s College London.<\/p>

Her current research focuses on the historical and contemporary French and Francophone communities in London and she is working on the politicisation of hospitality and restaurant culture. Amongst her publications, she is co-editor of A History of the French in London. Liberty, Equality, Opportunity (2013) and author of Fishes with Funny French Names. A History of the French Restaurant in London from the Nineteenth to the Twenty-First Century (2022).<\/p>

During her career at Westminster, Debra was particularly engaged with the Graduate School and doctoral researcher support and development and with public engagement, curating two editions of The Difference Festival.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
