At this time, London will have longer day hours with warmer weather and blooming flowers that help the city become alive with brighter colours, laughter, and energy and invite everyone to step outside and explore. As an international student at the University of Westminster, I’ve had the pleasure of engaging in some different activities over the past week that have allowed me to enjoy the city while staying active and creative that I would love to share with you some of the highlights of my springtime adventures.

1. Yoga in Regent’s Park: Finding Peace in Nature

Yoga in the peaceful setting of Regent’s Park has become one of my favourite activities. I spread out my mat between cherry blossom trees on bright mornings and enjoy the soft sound of birdsong and leaf rustle. It’s the ideal way to escape from the stress of college life for several minutes. With its lovely walking paths and well-kept gardens, the park has a very peaceful environment that takes only 10 minutes to walk to the Marylebone campus. It’s also a great way to connect with nature and prepare my mind under the beautiful blue sky with white clouds which is like an amazing painting before diving into assignments.

2. Exploring London’s Landmarks

As an architect, I am interested in history and famous landmarks, so I went to Tower Bridge, a famous London location with a wealth of history, for a leisurely walk with my cousin last weekend. I was fascinated by the breathtaking skyline and the River Thames views while standing on the bridge. Then we went to Borough Market and enjoyed some delectable street food while exploring the neighbourhood in the afternoon. With both locals and visitors, this area’s lively energy is infectious. These kinds of experiences enable me to appreciate London’s diverse cultural offerings fully.

3. Cycling Adventures: Journeying Between Campuses

Since I remember, I have loved cycling. However, the distance from my accommodation to the university is 50 minutes by bike, which would be too exhausting for me. As a result, these days, I’ve adopted cycling as my favourite form of transportation in addition to walking to go from the Marylebone campus to the Regent campus gym after a long day at the university because there are several bike hire schemes in front of the campus that students can use. I use Forest Bikes, which allows free cycling for 10 minutes daily if you sign up. Biking through the busy streets gives me a new perspective on the city, and the bike lanes are kept up nicely. It’s a fantastic way for me to enjoy the spring daylight while saving time, staying active and warming up before my boxing class.

4. Creative Escapes in the Sun

Taking a book that I borrowed from the university or my sketchbook to a local park on a sunny day or even listening to my favourite music and podcasts to enhance my English while I have my lunch has become one of my new routines in the last few weeks when I do not have any classes. Sitting in a calm environment and living my life for a short time under the warm sun and bright breeze seems to boost my creative energy. These times give me a sense of awareness and peace of mind, whether reading a book or drawing sketches for my project. I strongly recommend you use the opportunity and have your alone time in the numerous number of London parks and boost your energy and motivation.

5. Outdoor Social Activities

Spring also offers lots of chances to meet new people! In order to encourage us to explore the city together, the university frequently hosts events and activities during this time of year that you can find on UWSU’s events page. Moreover, our university gives us the chance to meet and join groups and societies with similar tastes and interests in every field for free, such as knitting, painting and sports. I met students from various backgrounds when I joined a crochet group that arranged a meeting in the Marylebone Cafe. In addition to enhancing our friendships, sharing this experience with others helps us make lasting memories in this stunning city. Or even going out with my classmates and tutors to celebrate being together for another semester. These are simple yet wonderful ways to socialise and enjoy the pleasant weather while you are doing your favourite activity.

Reflecting on these activities, I realise how much they have enriched my experience as an international student. Spring in London is a time to refresh your routine, explore new places, and embrace outdoor activities. Whether it’s through yoga, sightseeing, cycling, or simply enjoying your favourite book, music or podcast under the sun, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

I hope you find these insights helpful and inspiring.
