A small trip to North London (Enfield, Southgate etc.) and you\u2019ll be reunited with them.<\/p>\n<p>According to the London Cypriot\u00a0Embassy there are currently around 200,000-250,000 Greek Cypriots in London. Here are some places you can visit to feel right at home <span class=\"wp-smiley wp-emoji wp-emoji-smile\" title=\":)\">\ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The food market\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re craving\u00a0a typical Cypriot market (pantopolio opos to lalumen) then Despina\u2019s supermarket is the way to go. You\u2019ll literally feel you\u2019re in the agora tou\u00a0Agiou Antoniou (if you\u2019re from Nicosia). As soon as you enter you\u2019ll be greeted by the\u00a0familiar noise of news by RIK playing on the TV AND radio.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/img_7056-3.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-861 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/img_7056-300x203.png\" alt=\"How to survive in London- Cypriot edition\" width=\"351\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you take a look around, you\u2019ll see familiar products, kafe pou ton laiko kafekoptio, halva, soutzoukko, tashinoppittes (pano apola), koupes and anything else your heart desires. you can even buy vegetables imported from Cyprus. AND you can do your online shopping on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.despinafoods.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. Although the products are a bit\u00a0overpiced, it\u2019s worth it. By the way, no, I\u2019m not sponsored by\u00a0the shop.\u00a0You can find more Greek-Cypriot specialised shops in London, for example, Andreas Michli &amp; Sons in Harringay who were\u00a0also featured in the <a href=\"http:\/\/londonist.com\/2011\/04\/top-10-things-to-do-in-the-borough-of-haringey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Top 10 things to do in Harringay\u2019 list<\/a>.\u00a0You\u00a0can find also products produced by Cypressa, a Cypriot company based in the UK, in one of the big supermarkets over here, like Asda or\u00a0Tesco.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/Mar-photo-of-the-elysee-taken-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-860 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/Mar-photo-of-the-elysee-taken-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"How to survive in London- Cypriot edition\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The clubbing \/ Bouzoukia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re dying to go to bouzoukkia, then the restaurant\/club, Elysee is the one for you! \u00a0For those who don\u2019t know what \u201cBouzoukia\u201d is, it&#8217;s a\u00a0Greek night club playing a specific type of music called \u201claika\u201d live. Meanwhile you drink, dance, throw napkins and break plates (I think they still do that if i\u2019m not mistaken). Upstairs you will also find a small yet cosy (and when I say cosy, I mean really cosy!) club playing the latest Greek hits. Although I do warn you, it can get hot in there to the point of sweating so dress lightly and if you\u2019re claustrophobic then DO NOT GO!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/Marr-img_7057-3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-859 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/Marr-img_7057-300x179.png\" alt=\"How to survive in London- Cypriot edition\" width=\"359\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cypriot Wine Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every year the Greek-Cypriot community organises a two-day wine festival, because we all know how much we like wine, accompanied with souvlakia and other traditional delicacies. Cypriots from all over London, as well as non-Cypriots gather to eat, drink and listen to music (basically what we like to do most lol!).<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/Marr-wine-festival-2015-233-crowd-1024x629-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-858 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.westminster.ac.uk\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2015\/12\/Marr-wine-festival-2015-233-crowd-1024x629-300x184.jpg\" alt=\"How to survive in London- Cypriot edition\" width=\"359\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cold \u2013 the good and the bad<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For us Cypriots the word \u2018cold\u2019 is unknown and doesn\u2019t exist in our vocabulary. If it\u2019s 20 degrees we think it\u2019s freezing which is ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p>In the UK you\u2019ll soon realise that 20 degrees is summertime and, trust me, you will be thankful when those rare days come by. You\u2019ll want to skip uni, do nothing and go to the park to sunbathe. Oh, the park is another thing! When it\u2019s sunny here people go to the park, NOT the beach. I know it sounds weird but obviously they don\u2019t have beaches here, and, trust me, Brighton doesn\u2019t count unless a place full of pebbles counts as a beach.
