Thoughts on swearing by Stephen Bailey:
CUE: Profanity, offensive language, whether to express a point, insult someone, add a reaction or release emotion has been on a rise. Jean Twenge, a professor at San Diego State University has seen a dramatic growth in everyday use. His/her research found books are “significantly more likely” to include explicit words. The study found books published between 2005 and 2008, were at least ‘28’ times more likely to ‘include swearwords’ compared to those from the 1950’s. Our correspondent, Stephen Bailey’s been onto Harrow-on-the-Hill’s streets, hearing your thoughts as well as new research linking to swearing with intelligence. Covering such a sensitive topic, means the following package contains strong language.
