Production Week 1 & Pilot 1 :
This week we really needed to focus on the planning of the shows, so I really focused on this. I helped come up with a wide selection of speech content ideas, this includes actually on going features as well as speech packages as well. As we are doing two show forms (music radio and speech radio) I also had to assist in coming up with different features for the music show. This is just fun and exciting ways to get people to interact with the music show, but also a way to keep it relevant to food. An example of something I came up with, is “the right way to live life idea”. This is where the listeners and us as presenters argue whether you should leave the ketchup in the fridge or the cupboard. For this feature to work, I collectively came up with loads of suggestions for this alongside Joe and Matthew.
In addition to creating content idea’s, I also helped structure the actual show clock alongside the producers. This then allowed me to go ahead and actually make a digital copy.
Finally my second role on the station is to work on the actual production of the adverts. Therefore I had a meeting with Stuart, Minnie and Ola in regards to the adverts. From looking at the list complied on the sales team, I didn’t think the company’s selected would actually contact it back. Therefore I created a list of company’s that are more smaller, that may be more interested in advertising with us.
One of the main roles I have in this project is presenting the show along side Joe. But this wasn’t just straight out given. So in the initial weeks, I had to audition for the role. This was by reading scripts with both Billy and then Joe. Then I was told that me and Joe will be presenting together. However this was our first time presenting together. Therefore I spent alot of time practising with Joe to ensure we have great chemistry.
Pilot Week 2:
Following the feedback from the previous week, me and Joe decided to write the scripts for the show rather than our producers Rhys and Holly writing them. This was so we write it actually how we speak, and so we understand what we are talking about more. Therefore I spent this week researching our guests and writing half of the script.
In the first pilot we found that doing part of the show from one studio then moving to another sounds very different. Me and Joe, are both used to running the desk ourselves when presenting radio shows, therefore this took a little time to actually get used to. Therefore we spent a lot of time practising before the show in order to get used to being tech opp’d when presenting the music hour. Then of course alongside Joe I presented the pilot show.
Live Week 1 – Vegan Week:
Again this week I wrote the script for the show alongside Joe. This takes time to research our guests to be sure the questions we are writing are relevant. Then the script is then checked by our production Rhys. On the Monday morning me and Joe spent a lot of time practising the show, to ensure we don’t make any mistakes in the live show.
Before the show we presented a promo video filmed by Pulama that will act as a promo clip on social media. And then after the show we also presented the “What the food” segment which is filmed again by Pulama.
Me and Joe again presented the three hour show. When then scripted our intro and outro for the best bits podcast and then this was recorded by Pulama.
Live Week 2 – World Food Week:
Again this week I wrote the script for the show alongside Joe. On the Monday morning me and Joe spent 2 hours running through the show to ensure it was the best of our presenting ability. We also pre-recorded two of our interviews in the morning prior to the live show. I enjoyed pre-recording these interviews just because it gave a little more breathing space in the live show.
Before the show we presented a promo video filmed by Pulama that will act as a promo clip on social media. We had to plan out what we was going to say to present this video. And then after the show we also presented the “What the food” segment which is filmed again by Pulama.
Me and Joe again presented the three hour show then again scripted and recorded the intro and outro for our podcast.
Originally I did tell the advert team that I can help out to support them if need be. They needed someone to create the Collettes advert. Therefore I sourced a voice for the advert, and recorded it. I then edited the advert. I was struggling on how to envision the advert and bring it to life. Originally I thought I would put a lot of food sound effects in. But the main usp of the business was that it was a nice plan to hang out and eat food. Therefore I made the advert with more of an upbeat instrumental to bring it more to life.
Also with it being world food week, Mathew was very keen to include a Caribbean food in the third hour. Therefore I contacted some Caribbean food places for an interview and a food give away. I contacted an event called Reggae Brunch, which is a Caribbean food brunch that also plays reggae music. I also then sent a list of possible contributors and competition companies to Mathew. However none of these we’re used, as Mary already had a package similar to Caribbean food.
Live Week 3 – Seafood Week:
This week, again I shared script writing with Joe. This week required a lot more research as the topics we was covering we’re more complex. For example talking about fishing and Brexit. This is a subject I know little about so I had to really research. Me and Joe spent also spent 2 hours running through the show to ensure it was the best of our presenting ability. We also pre-recorded an in studio interview on Monday morning. It was nice to have a pre-recorded in studio interview. Especially as our guest had slight hearing problems, an over the phone interview may of been difficult. Further more she did speak quite a lot, so this gave the producers the opportunity to cut the interview down.
Before the show, like every week we presented a promo video filmed by Pulama that will act as a promo clip on social media. We had to plan out what we was going to say to present this video. And then after the show we also presented the “What the food” segment which is filmed again by Pulama.
Me and Joe again presented the three hour show then again scripted and recorded the intro and outro for our podcast.
This week the advert team needed a new voice for the Tyre Services advert. Therefore I sourced and recorded a female voice for this advert. Although I didn’t feel the voice was going to be great, we still recorded it to see if it suited the advert and we found that it did.

Live Week 4 – Dessert Week:
As we do every week me and Joe wrote the script for this show. Accept this week we really had to try write the script to suit the visual aspect of the show which was new. Before the show we spent time practising the show, and having the visual aspects to the show. Before the show we presented a promo video filmed by Pulama that will act as a promo clip on social media. We had to script what we was going to say to present this video, as we really wanted to push people to watch the live stream. Then Me and Joe again presented the three hour show.
This week the advert team needed a new voice for the Vegan Apron advert. So we wanted to try out a male and a female voice. I sourced and recorded the female voice for this advert.
As it was dessert week this week, I feel like I could really help with the website for content. Therefore I wrote an article on how to make Jamaican rum cake. As our target audience is adults, they may want to try to make this cake as a weekend treat.
