Fly Tipping causes outrage to residences of Harrow
A resident in Harrow has complained and is angry as there is continuous dumped rubbish in the same street of Harrow for over eight years. According to statistics £1 million was spent in Harrow alone last year to investigate and clear the fly tipping hot spots.
Over the years there has been a huge problem with the way in which people just throw there rubbish in areas that are already built up in rubbish. This has caused a lot of problems for Harrow and the residences of Harrow, as in 2014 and 2015, there were alone 7,072 incidents that were reported. These incidents that were reported costed the local authority almost £1 million in clearance of the waste and then leading to the investigations to stop these events from happening again.
There is a campaign under the name ‘right wast. right place’ which is to help tackle the fly-tipping issue, which has been launched. This campaign can help the businesses of Harrow to learn about how to get to grips with ways to manage waste and how to safely throw away the waste without effecting the residences of Harrow. The reasoning behind the local businesses of Harrow understanding about waste is because it was revealed in a national survey that 59 percent of businesses, small and medium- sized- in London and the South East didn’t know where all their waste went after it left there site.

In this picture from Gov.UK, it shows what the government are charging for certain offences, from littering to fly-tipping. The default penalty is £200 and can vary dependant on what the offence is. In Harrow alone there are more than a thousand reports of fly-tips each month which when collected and seen are usually in bags full of domestic waste: fridges, washing machines, beds and mattresses are also regularly seen at fly- tipping spots and it is causing the government to spend more of the taxpayers money to clear it up. I spoke to Hayden Turner who is a concerned resident in Harrow.
