Synopsis
Andrea presents Let’s Talk Fashion, a two-part series on the conventional Fast Fashion Industry in a parallel with London Fashion Week and all its glory. Young designer’s and industry insiders will give their opinions in regards to this Industry and its sustainability. The show will showcase the impact new generations of professionals have in fashion and their attitude to its harmful proceeding.
Let’s Talk Fashion Part 1 – The Fast Future of Fashion
The Fast Future of Fashion will partly focus on Topshop and the image it has on its customers. This shop is a Fast Fashion chain, which means that it looks to maximise profits by minimising costs which usually leads to environmental issues and human rights abuses among other problems. At the same time it has become somewhat of a big name in the fashion industry presenting collections at London Fashion Week and having celebrities’ endorsements. The opinion of the public will be featured as it is what drives the business and keeps the shop relevant.
In addition, this part will feature an interview with Josie George, co-founder of AMMA Sri Lanka, and initiative that not only creates a good job for mothers, allowing them to attend to their children and provide for them without it being a burden, but that produces natural dyes for textiles. AMMA, not only tackles the environmental problems that the Fast Fashion industry creates with synthetic dyes, but also guarantees good working conditions for its enployees.
Let’s Talk Fashion Part 2 – Making Big Brother Watch
Making Big Brother watch will focus on young industry insiders think about fast fashion versus sustainable fashion. I will feature a written interview by Sadie Williams, an up and coming designer who has her own views on how to implement sustainability in the work place. Williams has presented collection at London Fashion Week and has a peculiar style [see photos below]. Let’s Talk Fashion Caught up with young up and coming designer Savanah Avery whose work is 100% sustainable, from the tread she buys to the fabric she weaves and dyes she uses.
These young women are bringing/will bring a new perspective to fashion. Fast Fashion is cheap and affordable but it will come a day where either these companies will collapse or everything they use in their production will be environmentally friendly and the people sewing the garments will be treated with respect and dignity.
