HM Queen Elizabeth II was patron of the University of Westminster and its predecessor bodies, the Regent Street Polytechnic and Polytechnic of Central London, from June 1952 until her death in 2022.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The Queen’s first, unofficial, visit to the Regent Street Polytechnic took place in 1951 when the then Princess Elizabeth visited with the Earl and Countess Mountbatten of Burma for the Annual Council Meeting of the Royal Life Saving Society.\u00a0<\/p>

In her official capacity as Patron, the Queen visited the University on two occasions.\u00a0 In December 1995, she officially opened the Harrow Campus.\u00a0 In July 2004, she visited Regent Street to unveil a plaque in honour of the University receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.<\/p>

HRH Prince Philip also visited the University in 1958 and 1994.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 1949, Princess Elizabeth greeted competitors at the start of the Polytechnic Marathon prior to firing the starting pistol. She is pictured with the Polytechnic Harriers' Arthur Winter, organiser of the Marathon. The Marathon was held annually between 1909-1996 and competitors ran from Windsor Castle to Central London. As Queen, she started the race in 1962 and Prince Philip did so in 1963.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

Much like for the coronation of her father, the Queen's coronation was marked by a coronation concert and dance in the Portland Hall, Little Titchfield Street<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

The Polytechnic also held a Coronation F\u00eate at Chiswick. The F\u00eate included fair ground stalls and sporting events.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

In 1958, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Regent Street and Little Titchfield Street buildings for a tour of the Polytechnic. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

In 1992, the Polytechnic of Central London was awarded university status and became the University of Westminster. The Queen agreed to continue as the institution's patron. This announcement was published in the staff newsletter The Clarion.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

In 1994, the Duke of Edinburgh visited the University's Computer Centre for People with Disabilities, and a reception was held at Regent Street. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

The Queen officially opened the Harrow Campus in December 1995. Harrow College of Higher Education merged with the Polytechnic of Central London in 1990 adding the Harrow campus to the Polytechnic's estate.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

The Harrow Campus included new facilities for media, arts and design subjects which were put to good use for the Queen's visit in 1995. The alumni magazine Network published an article about the visit. The visit echoed the lack of 'fuss' requested by King George V for his visit in 1912.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

The Queen met with students and staff at Harrow. She also met with the University's governors including Dame Mary Hogg, great grand-daughter of founder Quintin Hogg.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>
