Whether you’re living in the capital or just visiting, your experience probably won’t be complete until you’ve watched at least one entertaining theatre show. So, here’s a list of London’s four most famous theatres.

The Old Vic

Originally founded in 1818 as the Royal Coburg Theatre, The Old Vic, an independent theatre based in the heart of Waterloo, is one of London’s most enjoyed theatres, having hosted several acts in comedy, music, dance and classical dramas over the years. Many famous actors have graced the stage, including Dame Judi Dench and most recently John Boyega, who played the lead role in military production Woyzeck earlier this year. Family show Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax is currently back at The Old Vic until 5^th November 2017.

 

Royal Opera House

Based in Covent Garden, the world-famous opera house held its first ballet performance in 1734, and is now home to the ROH Orchestra, the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet. This opera house has developed an attraction of audiences from around the world, and continues to do so with its unique presentation of lyric theatre. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is currently being shown until 28^th October 2017.

 

Royal National Theatre

The National Theatre is a publically funded performing arts centre opened by the Queen in 1976. It is located in Southbank and consists of three venues- The Lyttelton, The Olivier and the slightly smaller Dorfman Theatre. This fantastic theatre has a long history of producing high quality productions, and also offers creative workshops for people of all ages. Critically acclaimed co-production Barber Shop Chronicles will be returning to the National Theatre on 20^th November 2017.

 

 

London Palladium

The London Palladium is one of the most iconic and entertaining theatres in the world. Having hosted performances featuring stars from both the stage and screen such as the late Bruce Forsyth and musicals produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber such as The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz. Built in 1910, the venue continues to present brilliant variety performances such as School of Rock the Musical which is currently out to watch until early January 2018.
