Bank of England asks you to decide the new face of the £50 note

The public can nominate any eminent late scientist from the field such as physics, astronomy and biology to become the new face of the £50 note, according to a statement Bank of England released on Friday.

The nominated scientist must be British and dead, and the person can be both male or female. Four scientists will be work with BOE to draw a shortlist from the nominations, and the Bank Governor Mark Carney will make the final decision. The nomination pool will be open for six weeks.

Mark Carney, Bank Governor, said: “There is a wealth of individuals whose work has shaped how we think about the world and who continue to inspire people today.”

“Our banknotes are an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of UK society and highlight the contributions of its greatest citizens.”
