And the award for Brits Rising Star goes to…

Three female artists have been nominated for the Brits Rising Star award 2020: Beabadoobee, Celeste and Joy Crookes.

The winner will be announced on Friday 6th December and will be given a slot to perform at the Brit Awards in February 2020.

Previous winners of the award include Adele, Jorja Smith, Sam Smith and this year’s winner, Sam Fender.

The award has helped many of these artists progress their careers, becoming successful artists. After winning in 2019, Sam Fender’s debut album, Hypersonic Missiles, went straight to number one in the charts.

This year’s trio have worked hard over the years in order to create a name for themselves in the industry, gaining a loyal following which has got each of them noticed by the Brit Awards.

Beabadoobee

Indie musician, Beatrice Kristie, takes inspiration from Kimya Dawson’s soundtrack to Juno and bands such as Pavement, The Pixies and Sonic Youth. In 2007, the 19-year-old’s career took a turn for the better when she sang for The 1975’s label, Dirty Hit.

Celeste

The Los Angeles born, soulful singer is currently touring Europe, supporting Michael Kiwanuka. This came after her ballad Strange was recently added to Radio 1’s playlist. Celeste was raised in Brighton and first made an impact on the music seen with her single Sides of the Moon which was released in 2008.

Joy Crookes

The 20-year-old has gained large support due to her sophisticated neo-soul grooves which are inspired by her Irish and Bangladeshi heritage. She has performed at the summer festival Glastonbury and also had music played on Radio 1’s Big Weekend. The singer is inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse and Lauyrn Hill.
