Election 2019: Harrow West

Gareth Thomas, the sitting MP for this suburban constituency in north-west London, is hoping to retain the seat he has held for Labour since the 1997 general election

The one-time Minister of State at the Department for International Development currently holds the London constituency with a majority of over 26% – obtained in 2017.

He gained the seat in the New Labour landslide of 1997 – which ended 18 years of Conservative government. He unseated the sitting Tory MP Robert Hughes who had been the MP for Harrow West since 1987.

At the 2017 snap election, Labour won Harrow West with a difference of 13,314 votes between them and the Tories on a turnout of more than 72%.

The Conservative party candidate, Anwara Ali, will need a big swing in order to unseat Mr Thomas.

Other prospective parliamentary candidates standing for the Outer London seat are:

Lisa-Maria Bornemann (Liberal Democrat)
Richard Austin Jones (Brexit party)
Rowan Langley (Green)
