Zimbabwe-born Blessing Chitapa has been crowned the winner of The Voice UK after a seven-month break.

After narrowly missing a chair turn from the judges at the start of the competition, Chitapa was voted to sing again in the second part of the finale alongside Jonny brooks, before being crowned the people’s champion by the viewers yesterday, November 14th.

The ITV show, which was on a brief hiatus this year following the coronavirus, returned to shoot the finale with celebrity judges, Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Olly Murs and Meghan Trainor who alongside the audience, attended virtually.

The child of a church reverend, Chitapa was joined by her father, mother and sister, who supported her from the side of the stage as she sang Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’, and James Bay’s ‘Hold Back The River’.

Holding back tears, Chitiapa said “she is so happy to have sung on this stage”.

“I just won The Voice 2020; I’m trying to contain myself, I’m trying to stay composed, but my mind is blown,” – she continued.

Blessing’s single ‘Angels’ is currently available for download and can be found on all major streaming platforms.
