“Lightyear” a twist of the classic, or a cash grab

Walt Disney’s Pixar unveiled a new trailer for Buzz Lightyear’s origin story. His new look has sparked mixed opinions across social media and leaves us to wonder, whether classics should stay classic.

The success of recent remakes and origin stories such as ‘Joker’ and ‘Finding Dory’ has paved the way for these tropes to become increasingly prominent within Hollywood. ‘Lightyear’ is no exception.

The teaser trailer, released by Pixar on the 27th October, debuted a revamped Buzz Lightyear that was met with mixed opinions, voicing them through social media.

From an interview to gather opinions, Joshua (20), said “this is another way for Disney to make more money, a marketing ploy. He looks like an idiot to be honest”.

Despite the criticism received, Olivia, 22 said “I can see where people are coming from, but its not a big deal. If anything Disney are targeting the new generation of kids and for people in my generation its nostalgic. I grew up watching Toy Story so I would probably watch it too.”

Regardless, we are excited to see what Pixar are bringing out with the movie that is scheduled for release in the summer of 2022.
