BUCS: The start of the 2022-2023 season

For over 100 years British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) has been at the forefront of university sports in the UK.

The 2022-2023 season officially begins in October and ends in July of next year. The two biggest events of the season are the BUCS Nationals and BUCS Big Wednesday.

The BUCS Nationals consists of four major disciplines including athletics, badminton, climbing, and swimming. 2023 also marks the 10th anniversary of the BUCS Nationals.

The BUCS team has grown even bigger this season. 50 sports, 170 universities, and over 6,000 teams. From beginners to professionals, everyone can find a place.

This season BUCS appoints Sam Bell-Minogue as director of delivery. Sam has a wealth of experience in higher education, having spent the last 9 years at the University of Nottingham as assistant director of sports.

Sam’s appointment comes at a critical time for BUCS. With significant funding from Sport England and the announcement of a systemic partnership with them, this will enable Sam to guide BUCS in delivering a world-class performance and engagement program.

BUCS has also acquired new partners.

For the 2022-23 season, Aldi will be the main partner of BUCS football and hopes to work with all men and women in over 640 leagues.

Aldi values the skills and qualities that BUCS athletes bring to the professional environment and has established partnerships with various clubs including Loughborough University, Birmingham University, and Newcastle University.

There are many more competitions to be played in the coming month. Golf at St Andrew’s, touch rugby at Sheffield, fencing at Nottingham, snow sports at Edinburgh, and much more. Let’s look forward to exciting performances from the players.
