Investigation into the young activist: demanding a general election now

Protesters hold signs.
Overwhelmingly, protesters are calling for an immediate general election just weeks after Rishi Sunak was given the role of Prime Minister.

The People’s Assembly Against Austerity held a national demonstration on 5 November to advocate for an immediate general election.

Nearly 20,000 protesters from across the UK marched around Central London to support causes including Just Stop Oil, Stand Up to Racism and Extinction Rebellion.

A significant amount of the protesters were young activists campaigning for a more sustainable future, many of which marched with either Just Stop Oil or Extinction Rebellion.

Robin, an organiser with Fossil Free London, explained that the reason Just Stop Oil does “ridiculous actions” is because there is so little for activists to cling onto to make their point clear.

Towards the end of the march, Just Stop Oil staged a series of roadblocks around Trafalgar Square. This action took place the day before the COP27 summit began in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
