The Godfather of modern stand-up is returning to the stage after a 15 year absence.
His 2019 tour will be his first run of live shows since Get A Grip in 2005. Before that, his previous tour was in 1997.
Ben Elton joked to Waterfront: “The last time I toured I was still smarter than my phone. Things have definitely taken a funny turn.”
Elton exploded onto the British comedy scene as the host of the hugely successful Channel 4 show Saturday Live. 30 years ago when Ben made his name, the weekly live show featured performances from an array of Britain’s most loved comedians. He is now returning to the medium he did so much to define.
Not only is Elton extremely talented in telling jokes, but he has established himself as a multi-award-winning novelist, playwright, television writer, screenwriter, actor and director. His most famous works include The Young Ones, Blackadder 2, Blackadder The Third, Maybe Baby and Three Summers.
His brilliant writing skills have gifted us 15 novels with six of them being UK No. 1 bestsellers. Elton has also written for the smash hit stage show We Will Rock You, based on the British rock legends Queen.
Through his long, rollercoaster of a lifetime, Ben has won three BAFTAs, two Laurence Olivier Awards and a Royal Television Society Writer’s Award.
His upcoming tour is promised to be a belly laughter-filled night. Elton wants to try and make sense of a world which appears to have gone stark raving mad.
Saw Ben Elton trending and my heart skipped a beat. Turns out he’s just announced a tour next year. Phew!

When I was 14 I had a poster of his tour on my bedroom wall. Then I got into Jerry Sadowitz and Chris Morris and Ben Elton was boring but I’m curious to see this now. (If someone else pays) https://t.co/PkzmP9T8DQ

It’s no surprise that many companies have put their tickets on sale a year in advance. His 53-date tour will kick off in Dublin on 27 September and will then travel across UK, culminating in Torquay on 30 November.
His first UK event is scheduled for 22 September 2019 in Wrexham. Tickets for all shows will go on general sale on 10 December.
