Christmas through cinema this December

Christmas is coming! I don’t know about the rest of you, but for me it really is the best time of year. There’s lights everywhere, gift giving and everyone seems to be in a better mood whether it’s a Monday or Friday.

Every year there is an abundance of things to get done before lazing around on the big day. But the hard work wouldn’t be as much fun if we couldn’t enjoy ourselves while stressing ourselves.

This year some of London’s most popular spots (and some not as popular spots) are offering festive screenings. So whilst you’re out shopping this weekend for all those gifts – gift yourself with a nice sit down at the theatre to watch your favourite Christmas film.

London’s well-known annual event, Winter Wonderland has introduced, this year, a child friendly screening of childhood favourite The Snowman. Pop across the river to Hyde Park to join the fun, with tickets for the screening and other events on their website. After the film you can enjoy the magical fun fair, Christmas market and ice skating (if you’re feeling adventurous).

The Neighbourhood Cinema is hosting a wintry island where visitors can find themselves shipwrecked in the middle of Covent Garden to watch a variety of films including Elf, Love Actually, Home Alone and The Santa Clause. Some showings are reserved for families and those under 18, while most are for 18+, with alcohol being served from the ice bar as well as popcorn and festive sliders.

Hackney’s pop-up cinema is opening next week, with a variety of Christmas films available. The screenings are accessible via pre-booked tickets. This is one way to spend quality time with your family and friends over the holiday period.

We spoke to some Londoners to find out what their favourite Christmas films were – some of the most popular ones were The Grinch, The Holiday and Polar Express.

New films have been released this year too, with a new version of The Grinch making it to the big screen as well as Nativity Rocks! and Surviving Christmas with the Relatives among others.

Even streaming sites such as Netflix know the importance of a great Christmas film and have provided enough Christmas content for 1200 days, including favourites The Christmas Chronicles and Jack Frost

Get your warmest clothes on and head out to one of the locations situated on the map below to find yourself immersed in the merry celebrations watching one of your favourite Christmas film this December.
