How to switch up your skincare routine for winter

Winter is officially here. Now that the temperature has dropped, you probably thought about making changes in your wardrobe. But what about your skincare routine?

As the weather gets cooler, it is worth switching things up a bit. We don’t realise this but falling temperatures outside and indoor heating are some of the factors that can affect our skin and make it prone to dehydration and sensitivity. Sprinkle some wind and lack of sunshine on top of that, and you have the perfect recipe for a dull skin. Having said that, here are some of our best tips for staying radiant during these dark winter days.

  • Change your cleanser

If you like using a foaming cleanser, put that away right now. They’re good for summer when sweat is a big issue but during winter you need something creamier that doesn’t dry out your skin even more.

We recommend: Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser

  • Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise

Hydration is key for keeping your skin plumped and glowy. If you’re on the oily side, then you’re lucky. You can put on a thin layer of moisturiser and get away with it. But for those of you with drier skin, it is worth getting something that has a thicker and creamier consistency. Look out for products that contain barrier-repairing ceramides and fatty acids, some good ingredients that prevent water loss.

We recommend: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

  • Try out a facial oil

Facial oils are such a luxurious treat for the skin but when the temperature drops, they can do wonders. You can add a couple of drops into your daily cream or apply it straight to a squeaky clean face to lock in hydration and keep the skin soft and radiant.

We recommend: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

  • It’s time to exfoliate

Even if your skin is dry, that doesn’t mean it is going to shed on it’s own. So you need a little extra help to remove all the dead cells and fight dullness. Invest in a good exfoliator and slowly incorporate it in your routine. It is preferably to use it during night time, of course, followed by a moisturiser.

We recommend: The Body Shop Youth Liquid Peel Exfoliator
