US President Donald Trump has announced from the White House that Islamic State leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, died during a night-time US operation in north-western Syria.

Mr Trump has said Baghdadi was chased by US dogs into the dead-end of a tunnel, where he “dragged three young children with him” before detonating a suicide vest and killing them. Later DNA tests confirmed his identity.

IS are responsible for thousands of deaths throughout the regions they controlled and fought over in Iraq and Syria, as well as, terrorist attacks in cities all over the world, including London.

The perpetrators of the Westminster Bridge and London Bridge attacks swore allegiance to IS during their attack and were alleged supporters of the group.

A total of 17 people were killed as result of these attacks.

According to MI5 Security Service, the terrorism threat level status remains at “severe” and unchanged since September 2017 following the Parsons Green train bombing.
