Lewis Hamilton tests positive for Covid-19

World champion, Lewis Hamilton will no longer be able to attend Sunday’s Sakhir Grand Prix after testing positive for Covid-19. 

Just two days after winning the Bahrian GP, it was announced that Mr Hamilton will not be taking part in the upcoming race due to a positive Covid-19 test.

This will be the first time in 13 years that he will miss a race.

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS made an official announcement early this morning regarding the news.

According to The Evening Standard, Lewis now the third driver to test positive this season, alongside Sergio Perez at the British Grand Prix and Lance Stroll in Germany.

The seven-time world champion will continue to isolate in Bahrain until a neagtive result is produced.

It is hoped that he will be fit and well to return for the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Gran Prix, set to take place December 13.

In the team’s statement they said the Briton is currently suffering with mild symptoms, however overall feels fit and well.

Mercedes have announced George Russel will replace Lewis in the upcoming race.
