London Bridge: Female victim named as Saskia Jones

Police have named the woman killed during Friday’s terror incident on London Bridge as 23-year-old Saskia Jones.

The former Cambridge University student, from Stratford-upon-Avon, had been attending an event at Fishmongers’ Hall to celebrate the fifth anniversary of prison-based education programme, Learning Together.

“She had a wonderful sense of mischievous fun and was generous to the point of always wanting to see the best in all people,” the statement said.

Alongside fellow Cambridge alumni Jack Merritt, 25, she was fatally stabbed by Usman Khan. Paying tribute to his son, David Merritt, wrote on Twitter: “Cambridge has lost a proud son and a champion for underdogs everywhere, but especially those dealt a losing hand by life, who ended up in the prison system.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the attackers identity 24 hours after he was shot dead by officers having been fought by members of the public armed with a fire extinguisher and a narwhal tusk.

Khan, 28, was convicted of terrorism offences in 2012 and was released in 2018 having served only half of his sentence.

The Ministry of Justice have launched an urgent review into the licencing conditions of every convicted terrorist released from prison.
