London Coronavirus cases are falling in almost every borough with the majority of London boroughs are hitting Tier 1 levels.

Westminster has seen its cases drop to just under 100 per 100,000. Boroughs that follow are Camden with a rate of 84.1, Southwark 104.8, Lambeth 119.9, Kensington & Chelsea 117.2 and Islington with 114.7.

At the moment only two London boroughs are are experiencing increases in cases, those are Redbridge where cases have increased by 1.5% and Waltham Forest has seen cases increase by 0.5%.

Cabinet Officer Micheal Gove made a strong appeal for London to be put under the most draconian restrictions.

However, the prime minister has had to consider the economic impact if London were to be put in Tier 3.

If London was put into Tier 3, 550,000 jobs would be at risk, Tier 2 will put 50,000 jobs at risk.

There are about 1,400 people being treated for COVID-19 in London’s hospitals at the moment. London’s hospital network is well prepared for an increase in cases which further point to Tier 2.

Other cities around the UK are not as well equipped and face being overwhelmed if cases increase.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said if Londoners disobey social distancing rules the capital could be moved to Tier 3.
