Londoners urged to keep to coronavirus rules in efforts to stop the Capital from facing Tier 3 restrictions

London MPs continue to press Londoners to abide by social distancing and mask rules in a bid for the city to remain in Tier 2 restrictions.

London is seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases according to the London.gov.uk website, with the number of people in London who tested positive for COVID-19 on the 8th December totalling was 2203

Data reports that during the week 27 November to 3 December 2020, a total of 15,605 people tested positive in London, a rate of 174 cases per 100,000, compared to the previous week which saw a rate of 155 cases per 100,000.

Confirmed cases are reported to be rising across East London, with boroughs Barking and Dagenham and Havering seeing the greatest number of cases.

Referencing an Evening standard article Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, urged Londoners to keep to Coronavirus rules.

When discussing the Coronavirus vaccine in a BBC interview, Khan said: “Yes, we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. The vaccine is here. But actually, we aren’t out of the woods. The virus is very much with us. We’ve got to make sure we follow the rules.”

Nickie Aiken, MP for the Cities and London and Westminster told the Evening standard: “Every single person who breaks the rules adds to the chances of us going into Tier 3.

“We have got to work together as one city to ensure our cafes, restaurants, shops and other businesses survive and also to protect lives.”

The tier system is to be reviewed by officials on 16  December.
