“To that little girl in St Thomas, Jamaica and all the girls around the world – please believe in yourself.”
Jamaican born Toni-Ann Singh is Miss World’s 69th winner. The 23-year-old model and student won the hearts of everyone in Saturday’s final at the Exhibition Centre, London with her performance of Whitney Houston “I Have Nothing”.
Toni-Ann Singh also recognised the charity work she did as extremely important as she called it “the biggest part of the competition”.
Her crowning is a huge deal as it’s the first time in history that black women hold the titles for Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, Miss Universe and Miss World.
Viewers around the world showed their support via social media but there was one moment on stage that fans couldn’t get over. Miss Nigeria, Nyekachi Douglas was ecstatic and couldn’t contain her excitement for her peer as she was announced Miss World 2019.

I don’t know what was more satisfying, Miss Nigeria celebrating when Jamaica won or the genuine look of disbelief on Miss Jamaica’s that she won pic.twitter.com/PvExXwWQxI
