In her recent appearance on The Ellen Show, Rebel Wilson announced that she is the first plus size woman to star in a romantic comedy and has since apologized for it.
When on the programme, the Australian actress talked about here role in the upcoming film Isn’t It Romantic.
Wilson said: “I’m kind of proud to be the first ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy.”
During the show she was welcomed with warm applause, but Twitter users were quick to point out that there are many other plus-sizes actresses who have starred in rom-coms.
The 2006 film The Last Holiday starred Queen Latifah and Phat Girlz, also from 2006, starred Mo’Nique.
Wilson started to defend herself with tweets on her own:
Hey girl! Yeah I of course know of these movies but it was questionable as to whether: 1. Technically those actresses were plus size when filming those movies or 2. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead. So there’s a slight grey area
